Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CISEC) Courses
The CISEC-Canada program was launched in the spring of 2011 as a partnership between TRCA and CISEC, Inc., out of Parker, Colorado. The CISEC program was developed in 2005 and continues to be the leading certification program for inspectors in the U.S. TRCA has partnered with CISEC, Inc. to provide a Canadian version of this highly respected program.
The CISEC-Canada Program consists of a two-day training program, followed by a four-hour certification exam. The two-day course is open to anyone, while registration for the certification exam requires pre-approval by CISEC, Inc. To be approved for the exam, participants must complete an application form illustrating that they have a minimum of two years experience related to erosion and sediment control inspections and have participated in at least one other ESC training initiative in the last four years. Three letters of reference are also required.

The next course will be offered February 14-15, 2012, with the exam held in the afternoon on the second day. CaGBC Design Installation and Management of Rainwater Harvesting Systems
February 9, 2012 - Toronto, Ontario
This one-day course from the Canada Green Building Council will focus on the regulatory and technical aspects of rainwater harvesting (RWH) systems for both residential and ICI (Industrial, Commercial, Institutional) buildings. Technical aspects discussed include rainwater catchment and conveyance, tank selection and sizing, rainwater treatment, make-up ("top-up") water system and backflow prevention, and handling overflows from rainwater storage tanks. For each of these topics, the regulatory framework will be addressed.
The course is targeted at contractors, builders, designers, architects, regulators and anyone interested in learning about the design, installation and management of RWH systems.

International Conference on Stormwater and Urban Water Systems Modeling
February 22-23, 2012 - Toronto, Ontario
The annual International Conference on Stormwater and Urban Water Systems Modeling is a forum for professionals from across North America and overseas to exchange ideas and experience on current practices and emerging technologies. This forum is for engineers, scientists, modelers and administrators involved in water pollution control and water systems design and analysis.
The conference is multi-disciplinary and is designed for all who have a direct stake in stormwater management, non-point source pollution or the modeling of urban water systems. Attendees include: civil and environmental engineers; landscape engineers and architects; aquatic biologists, ecologists, fluvial geomorphologists and other scientists; urban geographers, and policy makers; professionals from municipal and government engineering; public works personnel; consultants; and instructors and researchers at universities and research institutes.

TRIECA Conference 2012
The first annual TRIECA Conference, hosted by The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and the Great Lakes Chapter of the International Erosion Control Association, will be held at the International Centre in Mississauga on March 27 & 28, 2012. Online Introductory Training Course for Erosion and Sediment Control Guideline for Urban Construction
**Note: This online course is not an event but rather a resource that may be accessed at any time by registered users**
Developed based on the Greater Golden Horseshoe Area Conservation Authorities ESC Guideline for Urban Construction, the course provides a summary of local legislative framework, definitions and examples of erosion and sedimentation, basic ESC principles, guidance on in-water works, good housekeeping, ESC plan design, performance monitoring and decommissioning. The course consists of a series of slides accompanied by audio, which proceed at a pace determined by the user. It concludes with a short multiple choice exam intended to test the user's understanding of the material presented.

Ground Source Heating and Cooling Symposium
This workshop and tour was held at the Earth Rangers Centre in Vaughan on November 3, 2011. Industry experts provided an overview of the various types of systems, including district, individual and solar integrated systems. Also discussed was the GeoCity Partnership (an intiative of the Toronto Atmospheric Fund), the benefits of detailed energy modelling, and the various incentive programs and Ontario support for clean technology innovations.

Permeable Interlocking Concrete Pavement Workshop
This event was held on Oct. 4, 2011 at the Earth Rangers Centre at the Living City Campus. Presentations addressed current local research initiatives, the latest guidance on design, operation and maintenance, and the consulting industry perspective on design and implementation.

Design, Installation and Management of Rain Water Harvesting Systems
This one-day course focuses on the regulatory and technical aspects of RWH systems for both residential and ICI (Industrial, Commercial, Institutional) buildings. The course is targeted at contractors, builders, designers, architects, regulators or anyone interested in learning about the design, installation and management of RWH systems. Participants attending the course will be provided with a copy of the Ontario Guidelines for Residential Rainwater Harvesting Systems and a copy of the Rainwater Harvesting Design Tool software.
