| Controllability of Systems |
The ability to control or adjust parameters related to indoor environmental quality is an important way to create an optimal work environment. Allowing building occupants to regulate their indoor environment facilitates individual well-being and comfort, thereby improving productivity. To accomplish this, each room in a work environment should have individual controls to regulate lighting, temperature and ventilation, and also have operable windows.
In office environments where most individuals work in cubicles, controls should be numerous, and if possible even allow for each individual to regulate some parameters that effect the conditions in the immediate area. To be eligible for credits in the LEED rating system, a building must contain one operable window and one lighting control zone for every 18.5 square metres of floor area.
